at East Point. John MacDonald did not marry.226

John was a merchant at East Point. After the Catholic Em-

ancipation, John became a member of the Assembly in 1850. He later

Hon. Lauchlan MacDonald was born in 1844 at East Point.

He was the son of Lieut. Col. (Big) Ronald MacDonald and Catherine

MacDonald. Ronald, his father, was the son of Lauohlan MacDonald

and Margaret MacDonald. Catherine MacDonald was the daughter of Augustine MacDonald.229 Lauchlan was a brother to Jessie (Mrs. James J. Beaton),230 Margaret,251 (East Point), John, (who lived at East Point and was unmarried) and Ronald (who lived at East Point and later moved to British Columbia).252 The MacDonald property was known loc—

ally as Prospect Hill. It comprised 600 acres when Lauchlan‘s grand—

father settled in the area. 253

Lauchlan married Teresa MacLean (daughter of Allan.MacLean and Flora MacDonald) of East Point in 1876.254 She was a sister to

Daniel MacLean of East Point.255 They had two children Ronald and

Mary Ann; Mary Ann died in 1914. Both died unmarried at East

Point. Lauchlan took over the family farm after the death of his
