A Special train left Charlottetown for Souris on the day of James R's funeral. Those present included Lieutenant—Governor MacIntyre, Hon. James H.Cummiskey5 Hon.George Forbes, Mr.Benjamin Rogers, Judge Warburton, Judge MacDonald, Lauchlan MacDonald, East Point John Kickham M.L.A., Hon. James W.Richards and Hon.J.F.Whear. The Requiem High Mass was celebrated by Fr. Ronald MacDonald and Fr. Walker. Pallbearers were John McLean,M.L.A.,R.R.MacDonald,
C.H. Sterns, A.E.Clarke,Captain Dominick MacDonald and Captain Lanigan. The remains were interred in St. Mary's Cemetary.275
James R. MacLean's mercantile business must have been profitable. His properties included a lot of land and buildings in Souris, a farm at New Zealand occupied by Thomas Murnaghan, a farm at New Zealand occupied by Isaac Cheverie, a farm at Gowan Brae occupied by Henry Mallard as well as several other'properties.2‘76
His wife and family lived in Souris after his death. They left the Island in 1914 and moved to Scotland. Mrs. MacLean married Major Thomas but left him in 1922 and resumed her former name.
Jimmy lost touch with the rest of the family. After Jimmy died it was found that he had left two children, Mrs. Hicks and Rod MacLean. Jimmy was awarded the Member of the British Empire. He was involved in the Military. James R.'s daughter Adele became a nurse. Ronelda married a Balon, an Optician. They moved to Tasmania from England- They had four children n Victor, DaVid, Adeline and Via. Ronelda has 17 grandchildren. James R's wife Marcella moved to Australia when she was eighty and she died there is 1969 at the age of 97.277
James R's farm was sold to Angus MacDonald. It later pass— ed to Fred Cheverie. It is presently owned by John and Bernard
Cheverie of East Point.278
