(1816-1856) and a daughter, Janet (Jane) (1820-1889). Jane was raised at the home of her Uncle Robert and Aunt Mary (Carruthers) Cairns. John (Glen) (1787-1871), his sixteen year old son, William and his fourteen year old nephew, John Cairns (1818-1889) (son of his brother Robert (1780-1876)) immigrated to Dunstaffnage in 1832. On 25 Sept. 1833 John Glen bought 100 acres, now known as "Broombush Farm" at Dunstaffnage and owned in 1985 by John William Cairns . On 10 May 1840 John Glen 's brother, Robert, a horticulturist, with his wife and family arrived from Scotland . He had an orchard farm of 13 Vi acres at Broombush farm in Scotland . John Glen rented, then sold his Broombush farm in Dunstaffnage to his brother Robert in 1845, who bought an additional 4614 acres later. In the meantime, Robert Cairns had been buying land in Lot 25 first known as "Burnt Lands", and later Freetown, and settling his sons. John and his sister, Janet (1828-1917) moved to Freetown in 1843. Robert Sr . bought 282 acres in Freetown (code 7 and 11) from the Estate of John Clark. On 5 Aug. 1854 he sold 182 acres of it (code 7) to his son Robert Jr . (1828-1903) for 84 pounds. This was later owned by Robert Jris son Alexander Cairns (1865-1934). On the same day Robert Sr . sold the remaining 100 acres (code 11) to his nephew William, son of John Glen , for 60 pounds. William also bought 102 acres from the estate of Gilbert Henderson adjoining the 100 acres for 86 pounds 10 shillings, thus, William owned 202 acres (codes 10 and 11) and a few acres where William C. Cairns and Sons buildings are now located. When William Sr . d. 1856 the farm was divided between his sons, with John taking the north end, and William Daniel taking the south end. The south boundary line being the present North Freetown Road. In 1879, William Daniels ' 103 acres, less the house was sold to Major Schurman and that same year Schurman sold 15 acres on the west side to John Cairns (1841-1899) for $150. In 1883, he sold the remaining 88 acres to Collingwood Reeves (part code 11) for $2000. William Daniel 's family moved away. John Cairns hauled the old house up to his farm and joined it on to his own house. In 1947, Howard, John's grandson, moved the old kitchen off and replaced it with a new modern kitchen. The old kitchen is being used as an implement shelter. After Collingwood Reeves ' son George d. in 1946, Elton Cairns and his son Howard rented the Reeves farm until 1954, when they purchased it. Thus, after seventy five years the original Cairns farm returned to Cairns ownership. Robert Cairns Robert Cairns (1780-1876) was b. Dumfriesshire, Scotland . He m.
