Eloi Gallant

Eloi Gallant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Toussaint Gallant, St. Raphael, came to Freetown about 1957 and was employed on the farm of George D. J ardine. In 1958, he m. Clara Cormier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Cormier, of Egmont Bay. They lived in Freetown until 1961 when they moved to St. Raphael. Eloi was employed as a cheesemaker at Amalgamated Dairies Ltd. in Summerside and is still employed there along with his two older boys. The family live in Summerside in 1985.

They have four boys: 1. Michael, b. 19 Jan. 1959.2. Wendell, b. 2 Sept. 1960. 3. Gordon, b. Nov. 1965. 4. Eldon, b. Feb. 1971.

Ernest Gallant Ernest Gallant from Tignish came to Freetown in 1963 to work at Cecil Paynters, Walter Campbells, and Simmons and MacFarlane Ltd.

He left Freetown and now resides in Tignish.

Ernest was b. 21 Jan. 1925. He m. Delima Gallant, Tignish, a sister of Almira. (See P. Gallant.) Delima was b. 29 June 1942.

Ernest and Delima (Gallant) Gallant: had four children surname Gallant. 1. Norman, b. 23 Aug. 1963. He lives with his Uncle Phillip in Kinkora. 2. Gordon. 3. Calvin. 4. Theresa.

Fred Gallant

Fred was b. in Howlan. He worked as a farm labourer in Freetown with Frank Deacon and later with John Lewis. He m. Mamie Gallant. Mamie worked for Mrs. Darrach Moase before she was married and later in Chelton. When Fred married, he lived in a house on the Deacon farm. The house had been Phil Doucette’s and was located west of Jesse Burns’ by the brook. It was hauled to Deacon’s front field by horses. This house was later moved across the road and Charlie Murl lived in it.

Gerard Gallant Gerard and his wife moved to Freetown from Tignish in Oct. 1965 and was employed with farmers.

They had two ch. who attended school in Freetown: Marion, b. 21 Dec. 1954 and David, b. 13 Nov. 1956.

Louis Gallant Louis Gallant lived in Freetown for a few years around 1935 and stayed with Fred Moase where he worked. It is believed he came from Summerside and returned to Summerside where he was a taxi driver.

Louis Gallant m. Mary Razavet of Summerside and moved to Toronto where they live. They had a family of four ch: 1. Richard, b. 1945. 2. Mary Ellen, b. 1946. 3. Heather Ann, b. 1951. 4. Michael, b. 1964.

Phillip Gallant

Phillip Gallant from Tignish came to Freetown in 1959 to work for Walter Campbell. He also worked for Austin A. Scales for nine years. Phillip served in the Canadian Army for four years. He left Freetown in 1967 and moved to Kinkora where he still resides in 1985.

Phillip was b. 29 Sept. 1911. He m. Almira Gallant, Tignish, 13 Nov. 1946. She was b. 11 May 1923.

Phillip and Almira (Gallant) Gallant had three children, surname Gallant. 1. Eli, b. 17 Oct. 1944 m. Lynda La Rose, no children. Eli is employed at The Save Easy Warehouse in Summerside. 2. Katherine, b. 22 Dec. 1953. She m. Jackie Reeves, Freetown. They are separated. (See Reeves history.) 3. Theresa, b. 13 Oct. 1957. She is a hairdresser in Halifax.
