How involved in this religious conflict were the people in Sou' West is uncertain. Certaintly their allegiance to Bishop Macdonuld and to their religion Q33: being tested. Yet all the political candidates were Protestant. What then can be concluded from the election results? It seems that they reflect both a desire not to have the Bible introduced
into the schools; and perhaps equally clear, a message to
Mr. Pope that they disapproved of his perpetuation of tenancy.
