— From Sou' West to Somerset —
In May, 1861 a census was conducted on Prince Edward Island. (1) Within Lot 27 some fifty—eight householders are identified as residents of Sou' West. For the purposes of this study Sou' West includes that area in the Mann—Pope estate between the County line dividing Lots 27 and 67 in the east, and the intersection of the Anderson Road and the South branch of the Dunk River, or more popularly known as Wright's mill, in the west. (2) These are the boundaries agreed upon by the residents of Sou' West in 1867, (see page lfo) below). Table 8 lists the names of the Sou' West residents
in the 1861 census.
