Figure 3 is a reproduction of a topographical map from 1863 showing Sou' West and vicinity. (4) This map provides specific locations for the residents' properties. It also confirms thoses names in Table 8 as residents of Sou' West: fifty-three names are common to the two listings. Although part of the southern half of Lot 27 is shown in Figure 3 only residents in the Mann—Pope estate are considered in this study. Thus, Sou' West is synonymous with Anderson

Road from Wright's mill to the County Line.

Table 9 shows the population of Sou' West by age and gender. From a comparison with Table 2 (1841) it is of interest to note the large increase (300%) in the number of persons between the ages of 16 and 45 in 1861; and the five— fold increase in the number of those over the age of 60 in

1861.

There were fifty-four families in Sou' West, with an average size of 6.3 persons per family; the range was from

three persons to eleven. Two householders were widows.
