The list is incomplete by comparison with the church records at the time, but it is useful. Eighteen persons named in it are also listed in Table 8, for 1861. Of the twenty~four new names, ten are sons of persons named in 1861; the remainder are neaxééfifiéggga to the village. An examination of the forty names on the 1861 list but missing in 1871 reveals nine deaths; of the other thirty—one,severa1 will be shown to have moved out, according to the Meacham

Illustrated Historical Atlas of 1880, and others appear to

be simple omissions, (see Chapter 5, below).

Of considerable interest in the 1871 list is the increase of non-farming occupations since 1861; in 1861 there were seven persons with non—farming occupations; in 1871 there

were seventeen.
