Souris West - 1880 This drawing was copied from Meacham’s Atlas.
In 1849, tenders were called for building a wharf on the east side of the mouth of Souris River. When completed in 1852 it was 300 feet long and was called Queen’s Wharf. A breakwater of brush and stone was built to protect it but it was not too effective.
Finally, in 1865, a drawbridge was built across Souris River. But, because shipping was still active on the River for many years, it was 1900 before a solid bridge was built.
