So keen was the interest of some of the Souris men that, c.1900, they formed the Souris Rifle Club. Some of the early members included: Andrew MacDonald , Ham Mabon , R.C. McLean , George McQuaid , Peter Paul MacPhee , Romeo McNeill, J.F. Sterns and Marshall Paquet . Later, the Souris Rifle Range was built on land directly east of , stretching from the road to the shore. The first shoot on this range took place on Labor Day, 1914. Judge A.L. Fraser donated a cup for King's County to be competed for at the Provincial shoots. Among the winners: Marshall A. Paquet , Paul A. MacPhee , George McQuaid , Roy C. McLean and J. Frank Sterns . In 1913, when J.M. Jones chosen to represent Canada in England on the Bisley Team was unable to go, J. Frank Sterns was called on to take his place. Col. F.S. Moore of Charlottetown was also on that team.91 Photo by Morley S. Acorn .
