Fox Ranching in Southport

In 1912 Sir Charles Dalton removed his foxes from Tignish to a ranch southeast of the Kinlock Road. He there formed the Charles Dalton Silver Black FOX Company with W.B. Prowse as president and AB. Warburton as secretary—treasurer; Dalton sold some shares but held a controlling in— terest in the company. This ranch flourished for many years.

In 1913 a Charlottetown insurance man, W.K. Rogers, started fox ran- ching with five pairs. By 1925 he had six ranches on the Island and others in the United States, Scotland and Switzerland and was considered to be the largest individual fox breeder in the world. His ranches in the area were the Dalton Ranch on the 48 Road, and one at Kinlock. His son, Major T.B. Rogers, returned from service in the First World War to assist his father in the management of the Southport ranches. He later built the home now

owned by Peter Moore.
