BETTY JEAN (ROBERTS) BROWN
Betty Jean moved to Southport in 1948 with her family. She attended Southport School through to grade 10. After attending Prince of Wales College and nursing school she married and they purchased a home in Southport. Betty Jean became a member of the Community Improvement Committee in 1971, was elected to the village commission in 1973, and became chairman in 1976. She was elected to the executive of the RBI. Federation of Municipalities in 1977 and became its first woman president in 1979. She was elected to the executive of the Canadian Federation of Municipalities in 1979—80. Betty Jean is married to Murdo Brown and they have two sons, Bruce and Steve.
