BILLY MacMILLAN

A Charlottetown native, Billy moved to Southport in 1970, by which time he was a professional hockey player with Toronto Maple Leafs, and recently married to Marjorie Linkletter of Summerside. He played seven NHL seasons, for Toronto, Atlanta, and the New York Islanders.

As an amateur, Billy enjoyed hockey success with St Michael’s College, Toronto, and the local St. Dunstan’s Saints, leading the Island university club to the national college finals in 1964. He then became a charter member of Canada’s National Team, and played in Olympic and interna- tional competition for five seasons before joining the Maple Leafs.

Billy has worked with handicapped children in the off-season, and was named “Islander of the Year” in 1970. Since his playing days he has re- mained in the game as Assistant Coach of the New York Islanders, Coach

of CHL team Fort Worth Texans (1978), Coach of NHL team Colorado

Rockies (1980), then General-Manager of the Rockies in the summer of 1981. In 1982 he moved with the Colorado franchise to become GM of the

NHL’s newest team, the New Jersey Devils. The MacMillans still maintain their Southport farm residence.
