THE AYLWARD HOUSE 49 Stratford Road

Matthew Aylward son of Captain John Aylward owned a 90 acre farm in Southport. In the late 18905 the captain built a home for Matthew and his wife Catherine. Matthew carried on a mixed farming and dairy business with his son John. In 1938 he retired and gave ownership to John. Matthew built a cottage and bungalow where they lived in later years — at the rear of

the farm.
