THE CROSSMAN HOUSE 1 BaySide Drive

This house was hauled down the ice from West River. Captain John Aylward lived in it while building his big house. It later was hauled back to West River, then back again to where it now is, on the point on Bayside Drive. This house is now being renovated by owner Reid McKenna.

This house was built by Captain Aylward before the turn of the century. He travelled to Newfoundland and other places, and brought produce and livestock. His son John travelled with him frequently. The property was left to John who left the Island to roam for twenty years. In the meantime George MacDonald who married John’s sister Margaret lived in the house with their family. John came back and took over the home again. He then sold it to a Mr. Kennedy. This property has changed hands many times. It is now owned by Lewis Livingstone.
