His funeral was held in St. James’ United Church, West Covehead on July 14, 1981, conducted by the Chairman of the P.E.I. Presbytery, the Rev. Cyril H. Gough, assisted by the Rev. James Fraser, the Rev. John Patterson, and the President of the Maritime Conference, the Rev. Bruce Roberts. He is buried in West Covehead Cemetery.
The Rev. John Foster 1981-
The Rev. John Foster is our present minister. He was born in Wales (Newton, Porthcawl, Mid-Glamorgan, S. Wales), the son of Harold and Olive Foster of Bridgend, Mid-Glamorgan. He was educated at the South Wales Baptist College, 1950-53, gaining the Diploma in Theology of the University of Wales. He attended the University College of S. Wales and Monmouthshire from 1954, gaining an Honors BA. from the University of Wales in 1957. Post-graduate studies at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario in 1981 led to an MA. in Ancient Jewish Studies.
Mr. Foster was ordained at Laleston, Nr. Bridgend, Mid- Glamorgan on July 12, 1957 . After teaching at the high school level in the UK. he served the Bideford Pastoral Charge in P.E.I. from 1966 to 1972, and St. Andrew’s Church, Vernon Bridge from 1972 to 1977. He was Family Counsellor for the National Church from 1978 and came to the York-Covehead Pastoral Charge in 1981.
He was inducted at Central Church on November 17, 1981. He has held the positions of Commissioner to the General Council and Chair- man of Division of Mission in Canada for Presbytery, P.E.I.
He is married to the former Dr. Wenonah Griffiths, born in Bristol, England, and they have two sons, Richard and Simon.
