were moved off the property; the only building there now is their own summer cottage; they live in Windsor, Ontario in the winter. Seabreeze Motel Efficiencies and Cottages Also on MacMillan's Lane, Charlie and Alice (Bagnall) Chandler bought 6 V 4 acres of land from Hubert Roberts in April, 1960; in May of that year they built 6 motel units, with office and laundry. The Chandlers lived at first in a mobile home, which was moved from New Glasgow each spring, and back there each fall. In 1964 they occupied one of two small buildings erected at that time; it is now a rented cottage. From 1977 on the Chandlers lived in an apartment built over the office and laundry. Three overnight units were added to the west end of the motel in 1968; the total accommodation was then 6 house?? keeping units and 3 overnight units in the motel, and one house?? keeping cottage. A further 7 cottages were added in 1983. On the road joining the and the Shore highway, and approximately opposite Lodge, are the " Shore Cottages ", owned by Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Ross . They bought IV 2 acres of land in 1953 from Mrs. Ross ' father and mother, Jack and Hazel (MacMillan) Warren, the land being previously owned by James MacMillan , Hazel's uncle. In 1956 the Rosses built their summer cottage, in which they stored their furniture while they were in B.C . on teaching assignments. When they returned to P.E.I , they built a second cottage in 1959, and four more between 1960 and 1965, for rent to tourists. In 1965 they bought an adjacent IV 2 acres from a Mr. Sutherland ; a sixth cottage was built on this land, as was their own winterised house, erected in 1972. There are two daughters in this family, both now married and living respectively in Ottawa (Susan, Mrs. Linus Burke ) and in Winnipeg (Gaylene, Mrs. Jerry White ), who used to help their parents with the summer tourist business. Like most other such operations in Stanhope , Shore Cottages have known visitors from all over the world, and the Rosses have made many interesting friends. Returning to the , Sunset Cottages were situated opposite the marina. The owners, Russell and Margaret Allan, had been summer vacationers to Stanhope since 1949. In 1961 Russell's father, Donald Allan , bought land and 3 cottages from Jeanette Marshall ; the land had previously belonged to Lloyd Shaw , and had been in the Shaw family since early settlement days; the cottages had been operated under the name "Court- Marshall Cottages ". After the deaths of Russell's father and mother (1964 and 1966) Russell and Margaret bought additional land and two more cottages in 1968 from Jeanette Marshall , converting one cottage to a year-round home. They came to live permanently in Stanhope as landed immigrants from New 233
