A charter member of the Stanhope W.I ., W.M.S ., and U.C.W ., " Mrs. Jim ", as she is respectfully known by her neighbours, was noted for her exceptional memory. Now in her ninety-first year, she spends her time amongst her children who are living on P.E.I , and is fondly called "Grandma MacLauchlan" by fifty-seven grandchildren and sixty great-grandchildren. It is interesting to note that when she came to Stanhope in 1911 to become the wife of James MacLauchlan , Isabel Jay left the same farm in Pisquid where Donald and Alexander MacLauchlan had lived before settling in Stanhope in 1829. Children of James and Isabel (Jay) MacLauchlan 1. Walter, b. 8 Sept., 1912, Stanhope , m. 6 Dec, 1939 to Violet Brown (b. 6 July, 1916, Covehead Road ), dau. of Norman and Lillian (Quigley) Brown. In 1935 Walter purchased 123 acres of land from John Beaton at West Covehead , where he and Violet live and farm. 1 c, Norman. 2. Edith, b. 23 Dec, 1913, Stanhope , m. 28 Sept., 1938 to Gregor MacCallum (b. 24 July, 1905), son of Lewis and Bessie (Toombs) MacCallum of Brackley Point . A charter member of W. I. at age 15, Edith obtained her teacher's license from P.W.C . in 1931 and taught for 3 years at Suffolk and 4 years at before her marriage. Since then, she and Gregor live and farm at Brackley 407
