POWER Edward Joseph Power (b. 19 Jan., 1940, son of John Power of and Johanna Smith of Ten Mile House ) with his wife Margaret Heather (b. 1 July, 1944, daughter of William Hugh Matheson of Westville, N.S. and Grace Bainbridge of Sackville, N.B. ) came to Stanhope in the summer of 1968 as newly-weds. A new home was built in 1967 and completed in 1968 on the . Edward is a Professional Electrical Engineer, and is currently Chief Electrical Inspector for P.E.I. , and Chief Inspector of Plumbing and Elevators; he is also a Land Surveyor. Edward graduated from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in 1964. Margaret attended Teachers College in Peterborough, Ont., and taught in Ontario schools. She is a member of the Stanhope Women 's Institute, having served two terms of two years each as President; she is the W.I. Red Cross convener, in charge of the Swimming and Water Safety Program for Stanhope children. Margaret is the Brown Owl for the First Brownies and is the District Guide Commissioner; she was recently appointed Provincial Program Commissioner for the Guides and Brownies . POWER In 1835,47 acres of land in Stanhope , on what is now the , were leased by Sir Graham Montgomery (grandson of Sir James Montgomery , the first proprietor of Lot 34), to Martin Power, a settler from Northern Ireland . Actually Martin was occupying his land as early as 1827 (it was mentioned in the 22 Nov., 1827 lease of Neil Leitch 's 93 acres from Montgomery), but the deed was not registered until 1835.
