died on January 26, 1865. aged 72, the daughter of William Lawson and his wife Ann Graham of Stanhope. Mary is buried in the Stan- hope East Road cemetery. She was the widow of Robert Bovyer.

Children of William and Mary (Lawson Bovyer) Stead

l. Isabella, b. 7 Nov., 1824, m. 8 Mar., 1853 at Covehead to James Auld. Their children were: George, Walter, Charles, Frank, Fannie, John W., Jane.

2. Mary, b. 7 Aug., 1827, m. 3 Mar., 1848 by Rev. L.C. Jenkins to Alexander Oxley. It is possible that Henry Havelock Oxley, the baseball player, b. 4 Jan., 1858, was their son. (b. Covehead).

3. John, b. 15 Apr., 1829. 4. Robert, b. 7 Mar., 1831.

All the children of William and Mary were baptised by Rev. L.C. Jenkins; the eldest on May 9, 1827, and the 3 younger ones on May 9, 1832.

STEWART

John David Stewart (b. 18 May, 1935, son of George and Ruth Stewart of Charlottetown) and his wife Margaret Louise Peters (b. 19 Sept., 1938, dau. of James and Jane Peters of Hunter River, later of Charlottetown) bought half an acre of land from Delmer Vail in 1968 and built their summer cottage in April, 1969. They used it as a summer home until 1978, when they added a room and a basement and winterised it. They moved to Stanhope as permanent residents in May, 1979. John works in the Agricultural Research Centre in Charlotte- town.

Children of John and Louise (Peters) Stewart

1. Deryck, b. 20 Mar., 1959. He is in the Canada Armed Forces, now stationed in West Germany.

2. Donna, b. 18 Sept., 1961, m. to Brian Burge, son of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Burge.

They live in Pleasant Grove and have 2 c., Steven, b. 3 June, 1980 and Susan, b. 9 Feb., 1983.

STEWART

Olive Mary Stewart, sister of John above, came to live year-round in Stanhope on November 1 1, 1973. She was born in Charlottetown on December 6, 1941, the daughter of George and Ruth Stewart. In 1969

she bought one third of an acre of land from Harry MacLauchlan (part of the MacLauchlan sub-division, originally John Arch MacLauchlan’s). She built her winterised home in 197 3. She is presently taking courses at Holland College to upgrade her secretarial skills.
