The early maps give prominence to Post Office locations and before the railway was built the Post Offices and the mills were the centres of atten- tion. The Map of RE]. by George Wright, 1852, with corrections and additions to 1873, shows Blueshank and Wilmot Creek as the only place names of the area. Blueshank is used as the location of the Post Office and it is also used as the name of the proposed railway station although this name is changed to Kelvin Grove in Meaeham ’5 Atlas, 1880. This change in name was due to a strong protest by the people in Kelvin Grove who greatly preferred the latter name.
The promised railway caused a stir of excitement and the local com- munity was surveyed like many other communities. However, a well worded petition from Kensington and Malpeque was one reason why the line con- tinued in an easterly direction bypassing Wilmot Valley then swinging to the
