Structural Material 87 The teacher in 1869 was Barbara Lefurgey and in 1870 attendance was poor due to an epidemic of whooping cough. In 1871 With Ewan Campbell as teacher and a class of 36 pupils, the examination was rated as “Fair”. but it was noted that the teacher had only been there three months. Donald MacKay, a first-class teacher, was hired in 1871 and was followed by Frances Enman and Jack Lefurgey. In 1874 Mary Jane MacPhail held the position and in 1875 the teacher in charge was Julia Baker. In 1878 MJ. MacPhail was paid a supplement of $65.00 for teaching in Wilmot Grove School and at this time the School was given the number 71, a number that remained in use until the school closed in l974—almost a century later. Harvey MacEwen was the teacher for the next two years; 1879 and 1880, and he was followed by Fannie E. Haslam for a three year term. Ada Stewart held the position from 1883-1886 and Ewen Matthews from 1886 to 1888. A teacher by the name of Hedley Secord stayed for one year and from 1890 to 1892 the position was held by John Jardine. Two year terms each were filled by Edwin Simpson, Harry I-Iaslam, Archibald Smith and H.B. MacLeod.
