Structural Material 103 These groups have won several awards and some members have attended conferences in Texas, New York and Washington, DC. Bonnie Caseley was named Provincial President of P.E.I. Senior A.Y. during the Youth Conference held at University of Prince Edward Island 1979. Garth Huestis was given an award for the best AY’er in 1977 and Nancy Waugh was named Senior Representative for Unit 2 of Allied Youth for two years. A junior group of A.Y. Unit 2 is still active with Tammy Lee MacLean as leader. RED CROSS Red Cross meetings were held during the first World War. The ladies would gather in different homes throughout the community to sew shirts, knit socks, mitts, etc. During the year and especially at Christmas these ladies would make up boxes to send to the soldiers. These parcels would contain cigarettes, candy bars, gum, canned goods, socks, mitts and just abOut anything else they could squeeze in—even a piece of cheese. However, no matches were allowed. These boxes, which were all the same size, would be packed very tightly. They were wrapped by sewing a piece of white cotton around them and were addressed simply “To Boys”. REACT In December, 1977 the Wilmot Valley School was made available to the Radio Emergency Associated Citizens Team for their regular meetings. This organization is made up of dedicated Citizens Band radio operators. Their hobby of “talking C.B.” is used to benefit the surrounding communities by providing such services as: assistance to R.C.M.P. and Police Department in times of emergency and on Hallowe’en night, monitoring Channel 9 (the emergency channel on CB. Radio) twenty-four hours a day. This provides the public with a contact for emergency services. They help with radio appeals and hold weekly card parties. Their officers at the present are: President, Leigh Wadman; Vice-President, Wayne Wadman; Secretary, Faye MacKay; Treasurer, Hal Jones; Team Captain, Reg. MacKay. RURAL BEAUTIFICATION This organization started by Lt.-Col. E.W. Johnstone Burlington, Prince Edward Island, with the purpose of beautifying the rural homes all across the Island, received the firm support of the residents of Wilmot
