134 A Bridge To The Past
WAUGH
James Waugh, of Scottish descent, was one of the United Empire Loyalists who came to Lot 19 when William Schurman brought a party of fourteen Loyalists from Shelburne, N.S. in 1784 to what is now Wilmot Valley. James received fifty acres running from Wilmot Creek eastward along the southern boundary of Lot 19, which is now the Blueshank Road. He also received two hundred and fifty acres of land which lies further east on the Blueshank, where Audrey and Brian Waugh live (1979). James was
unmarried when he arrived but later married, and eventually moved to what is now Read’s Corner. James married Rachel Townsend. Their children
were: John Samuel (1797)
