Footsteps Across The Bridge 145 Margaret Jane (Stavert) Humphrey of Wilmot Valley. At first Harry and Etta lived at Harry‘s home (the Roy Simmons house, 1979). In about 1920 they bought the William Easter property, on the eastern border of Wilmot Valley, and lived there for a short time. They sold that farm to Cecil Forbes and moved to Etta’s home, where Arnold Waugh lives today, and stayed there until Etta‘s father died in 1930. Harry and Etta built the house which the Dyments live in, about 1930 or 1931. and farmed there until after World War Two when they sold the farm to Harry Waugh Jr. Etta was very much opposed to automobile traffic in Wilmor Valley. One day, whether on im- pulse or by design, she put her feelings into action. Noting the approach of one of the offenders she hurried to the road where she shook her apron at the auto in a vehement, but no doubt futile, attempt to “shoo” it away. After selling this farm Harry and Etta moved to Summerside where they retired. Harry died after being involved in a car accident. Both Etta and Harry are buried in Floral Hills Cemetery. WAUGH James Harry Waugh (June 1, 1924) was the son of J. Harry and Rusie (Schurman) Waugh, and his childhood home was the farm of Audrey B. Waugh (1979). Harry joined the R.C.A.F. during World War Two and served as an air—gunner. Due to his quickness of thought, dedication, and selfless courage in two different encounters with attacking planes, Harry was decorated by King George VI, at Buckingham Palace, with the Distinguished Flying Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross. While in England Harry married Rosemary MacBeth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert MacBeth of Yorkshire. Harry and Molly farmed until 1949 when they moved to Summerside East. Harry moved later to Truro, was divorced and married Eileen Crewe. From the first marriage there were five children: Robert MacBeth (Jan. 22, 1947). James Howard (Jan. 31, 1948), Barbara Patricia (April 1, 1949), Peter Graham (April 17. 1950), and Lois Jane (July 7, 1951). From the second marriage there were the following children: Harry Sidney (Feb. 25, 1954), Charles Roy (May 15. 1955). Beverly Ann (June 10, 1957). Karen Gail (July 31, 1960), Anthony Philip (Dec. 1, 1961) and Jacqueline Kim (Feb. 26, 1964). (See Veterans). SIMMONS Keith Simmons (1917) is the son of Brecken J. and Mary (Moase) Simmons. Keith married Ethel Campbell (1922), daughter of Albert and Martha Minetta (Warren) Campbell, in 1945. When first married they lived on the Stavert property but they bought Harry Waugh’s property and mov- ed across the road to the farm on December 1, 1949. Keith and Ethel farmed there until May, 1974 when they sold the land to Eldred Simmons, a
