MURPHY

According to the census taker in 1841 there was a farmer named Patrick Murphy living west of the Irving Hogg farm (1979), in Lot 19. Almost nothing is known of him or his family except that Patrick and his wife were beween the ages of sixteen and forty-five years, and they had one son and two daughters under the age of sixteen years.

SMALLMAN

William James Smallman (1942) is the son of William Euart and Marion (Leard) Smallman of Summerside. He married Beatrice Elizabeth Parker (1944) daughter of Stanley and the late Marion (Somers) Parker of Hazel Grove. The Smallmans purchased their large lot from Herbert Simmons and are located west of the Irving Hogg farm. James and Bea lived in a mobile-home from 1968, when they moved here, until the summer of 1979 when they moved into their spacious new two-storey home. James operates a combination welding and machine shop at Read’s Corner. Bea worked at Boutique Fiesta, in Summerside, and now helps James with his office-work.

Slightly east of the MacKay home on the south side of the Blueshank Road are the house and barn which were built by Norman Simmons. This house, barn and six-acre lot are now owned by Harvey Worth. Mr. Worth bought the home in July, 1979, and is renting it for the winter.

SIMMONS

Norman Louis Simmons (Jan. 13, 1946) is the son of the late Harold Simmons and Lulu (Yeo) Simmons. Norman was raised in St. Eleanor’s. He married Jessie Elizabeth Frizzell (Oct. 17, 1949), daughter of Hugh and Marion (Graham) Frizzell of Charlottetown. Norman is a carpenter and has a landscaping business. Norman and Jessie buit their house and moved to Wilmot Valley in 1969. The land was formerly part of the Herbert Simmons farm. Norman and Jessie have three children: Harold Clarence (Aug. 1, 1966), Connie Lulu (Aug. 1, 1968) and Cindy Elizabeth (June 30, 1971).

As we continue to travel east along the Blueshank we pass the three at- tractive farms of Irving, Earle, and George and John Hogg. These farms belonged originally to the four hundred-and—fifty acre block which William Schurman drew in 1784. The first of the three farms is the home of Irving Hogg.
