150 A Bridge To The Past HOGG Herbert Hogg (July 2, 1789-1866) and his wife Margaret (Flood) Hogg (1801—1876) came to P.E.I. from Dumfrieshire, Scotland. They settled in Wilmot Valley about 1826. Because they were among the earliest settlers in this community and because their land stretched through Traveller’s Rest and Wilmot Valley into North Bedeque (as can be seen on Lake’s Topographical Map of 1863) there are varied opinions on the site of the earliest Wilmot Valley homestead. One location suggested is the present Irving Hogg farm; the other is the former Hogg farm across the river, where Morris Johnston now lives. The latter farm was included in North Bedeque until recent years. Herbert and Margaret Hogg had the following family: Jane or Jennie (1825-1917) did not marry. She is buried in North Bedeque. Walter (1830—1894) married Eliza Hall and farmed on the Taylor Road where Morris Johnston now lives. Herbert (1833—1894) did not marry. He is buried in North Bedeque. John (1838-1857) is buried in North Bedeque. Sarah (1841-1902) did not marry. She is buried in North Bedeque. Herbert Jr., Jennie and Sarah farmed on the Irving Hogg farm and Jennie and Sarah continued to farm with the help of John W. Hogg. until his marriage in 1901. Emmanuel Wedge helped Jennie with the farm for her remaining years. John W. Hogg, Walter’s son and Jennie’s nephew, receiv- ed fifty acres on the eastern side of the farm in the will of Herbert Jr. John W. lived at the present day George Hogg farm and after Jennie’s death farmed the remaining part of her farm. Herbert Irving Hogg (April 2, 1904), the son of John W. and Sarah Ada (Clark) Hogg, married Jean Blanche MacEachern on June 16, 1937. Jean is the daughter of the late Angus and Bessie (Mann) MacEachern. Irving bought the former Jennie Hogg farm. He and Jean built a fine new home shortly after their marriage and have a lovely view of the river valley. WEDGE Emmanuel Wedge was the son of Simon and Sophia (Arsenault) Wedge of Egmont Bay, P.E.I. He came to Wilmot Valley before he was married and worked for Miss Jennie Hogg. Emmanuel married Elizabeth Arsenault, daughter of Dolphie and Theresa (Gallant) Arsenault of Sum- merside. Emmanuel and Elizabeth had five children: Verno (1909) did not marry.
