The farm east of the Irving Hogg farm, on the north side of the Blueshank Road, is the home of Earle Hogg. This home is always pleasing to the eye with its beautifully-kept grounds and buildings, and large shade trees. The trophies which Earle and Velda have won in the rural beautification program attest to the consistent care they have always given to their home.
The first settlers on this farm, which was originally the property of William Schurman, were Thomas and Margaret Stavert.
STAVERT
Thomas Stavert (1791) married Margaret Boa in Howick, Rox- buryshire Ettrick, Scotland. They came to Prince Edward Island and lived in Cascumpeque for a year. The Staverts moved to Wilmot Valley in 1822, and they must have been pleased with this area as the family continued here for over one hundred years before the descendants moved to other parts of the province. Margaret and Thomas had a large family:
Catherine (1820-1907) married Robert Neil (1807-1846). Later she married Andrew Humphrey (1829-1904) and they lived in Kelvin Grove.
Janet (1822—1910) married Archibald MacMurdo (1821-1903).
Walter (1823-1910) married Henrietta Jardine (1829-1902) and they lived in Kelvin Grove.
John (1827-1898) was a bachelor.
