until 1907 when they moved to Wilmot. Richard had the misfortune of being injured while hauling a load of mussel-mud to “Klondike." His leg was run over by the sleigh, and it troubled him for many years. Richard and Esther had four children:
Ernest W. (1901-1929) was killed when a cliff collapsed at a picnic in Caven- dish.
Stella M. (1899) married Lea Henry Moase (1897-1976) son of Herbert Moase.
Charles Aretus (1907-1977) married Margaret MacEwen of Stanley Bridge.
Edward A. (1913-1949) married, and lived first in Halifax and later in Truro. He worked for Canadian National Railway.
CURTIS
David Franklin Curtis (June 3, 1878-June 22, 1955) was the son of John B. and Georgina (MacKay) Curtis 0f Wilmot Valley. Frank married Jessie Isabel Humphrey of this community and bought the Richard Clark property. They farmed until 1916 when they moved to a farm in Middleton. They later lived at the house of Mrs. John Curtis for a short period. Their children were:
Austin Humphrey (Nov. 11, 1908) married Louisa Redpath in 1944. Their two sons are William Thomas (1947) and Martin Dale (1948). They live in Angus, Ontario.
Georgina Margaret (Feb. 21, 1916) married John Hopkirk. Their sons are Gerald Austin (1945) and John Robert (1950). One son, David Alan, died as an infant. The Hopkirks live in Summerside.
When Frank moved to Middleton his brother Harry bought his property. Harry Osborne (Dec. 19, 1890—Sept. 9, 1964) married Josephine Large of Albany and they farmed until 1954. At this time they retired and moved to Lot 16. Their daughter, Jean (1914—1967) married William Miller on June 22, 1938. They farmed in Lot 16 and had one son, Douglas Wayne.
After the Curtis family moved, Earle Huestis bought the farm. Both Earle’s son Gordon and his nephew Kenneth lived in the former Curtis house before building new homes. In 1965 Robert Crozier bought the house and later built the motel. The Reynolds family now operate the motel.
