168 A Bridge To The Past

Mrs. Sobey was a lover of children and the Sobey home was l'rc— quented by the school—children who came over for various things through the years, even being allowed to use the telephone, Mrs. Sobey taught Sunday School in the Wilmot Valley Hall. The Sobeys had five children:

Grace Stuart (April 9, 1905) married Hugh MacPhee of Brae. They live in O'Leary and have three daughters, Marion, Marjorie and Audrey.

George Alvah (Aug. 9, l908-May 10, 1975) married Rowena Lockhart on November 7, 1945. He was a horseman and they lived in Summerside. Their three boys are Dr. Douglas, Dale and Carl.

lilyan Mae (Oct. 16, 1909) lives at home. Melbourne Matthew (Dec. 25, 1911) lives at home.

John Frederick (June 13, 1916) married Janetta Visser. They farmed in Cor- nwall and now live in Charlottetown. John is also a carpenter. Their children are Pauline, Carolyn, Fritz and Brian. (See Veterans).

Mel and Lillian moved into a nice mobile home on the corner of the Blueshank and the New Annan road several years ago and the Old house was demolished. Mel transports the mail from Summerside to Borden. Lillian operated the Wilmot Valley Post Office until it closed in 1969.

As was mentioned before, horses were Ed's “first love.” One Of the last horses the Sobeys had went by the name of Jolly Easter. This frisky bay
