Footsteps Across The Bridge 169 captivated the minds of the horse-loving children in the community as he coursed the field with tail held high. One day a youngster from nearby, with all the optimism of eleven years. and dissatisfaction with her own sleepy mare, decided Jolly Easter might be just about right. Few people were about that day to dissuade her and with the aid of a bit of oats the horse was. seemingly. befriended, A merry bareback ride around the Sobey pasture- field resulted. With the first round completed and a sharp turn negotiated in front of the apple-trees. the ride increased in speed until the execution of the turn at the northeast corner of the field became impossible. The girl. although more than slightly eager to end the ride soon, met this end. and hers. with undue abruptness. at the corner of the field. Jolly Easter. needless to say, romped off “home free.“ His young would-be friend did not bear him any grudge; however I do not recall any further visits being made. BL'LGER Near the site of the former Sobey home is the modern home of Richard and Patricia Bulger. Richard Moran (Nov. 27. 1943) was originally from Foxley River. He married Patricia Gail Wagner (July 18. 1951). of East Bideford. on December 21. 1974. Richard is a carpenter and he and Patricia moved to Wiltnot Valley from Traveller‘s Rest on February 10. 1979. They have two children. Linsey Patricia (Feb. 2. 1978) and Pamela Jill (Aug. 6. 1979). JOHNSTON Austin Joseph Johnston (March 2, 1948) is the son of Lawrence and Loretta (Quinn) Johnston of Kinkora. He married Judy Louise. daughter of Lillian (Sherren) and Alexander Dawson of North Tryon. Judy and Austin live in a mobile home just east of the Bulgers. on land which they purchased from Melbourne Sobey. Austin is a salesman with Maritime Motors. and Judy teaches dancing. Judy was the Island champion for Highland Dancing in 1963. 1964. and 1965. and also the Island champion for tap and step dancing in 1965. She has also won medals in bagpipe corn— petitions. As a girl. she appeared on television on “Country Hoedown." in Toronto. When one visits the Johnstons he immediately notices the many trophies which Austin has won for snowmobile racing and for skeet and trap shooting. 1n the latter sport he has been a provincial winner. The Johnstons have two children. Duane Lance (June 5. 1967) and Dale Michael (Dec. 14,1969). Across the road from the Johnston home is the northern end of the Wilmot Grove Road.
