174 A Bridge To The Past bought the Curtis farm and moved to Wilmot Valley in 1956. Here they have carried on a mixed farming operation. Their children are: Karen Elizabeth (Nov. 19, 1954) married Gregory Lloyd Campbell (Aug. 1, 1950) son of the late Lloyd Campbell and his wife Vera (Brander) Campbell. They have two daughters, Cheri Lynn (Sept. 14, 1976) and Lori Rae (July 20, 1977). Heather Jean (June 8, 1957) married Gordon MacLean. (See Mac- Lean). HUESTIS Continuing north on rte. 120, the next farmhouse situated on the left is that of Gordon Huestis. This land was formerly occupied by Stephen Fulton Huestis (Aug. 28, 1835-1919). He was the son of Peter Mabee and Ann (Lefurgey) Huestis of Middleton. Stephen married Ada Lefurgey (Jan. 1934), daughter of George Lefurgey and Hannah (Baker) Lefurgey. They lived in Auburn, Iowa for a few years and returned to P.E.l. in 1861, settl— ing on the present Gordon Huestis land. .‘vIr. Huestis spent some time study- ing for the ministry and was a school teacher. He was a leader of the corn- munity in agriculture and for a time was a clerk at R.T. Holman’s Ltd. in Summerside, while his wife and family carried on the farming. Their home was called Beechwood Cottage. They are buried in Wilmot Valley cemetery. Their children are: George Gordon (Aug. 17, 1859-1951) born in Auburn, Iowa, married Fanny Hogg. They had a family of six. (See Horace Huestis farm, 1979). Fannie Schurman (Oct. 30, 1863— ) born in Wilmot Valley, married Bruce Taylor. They first lived in Charlottetown and later moved to Vancouver. They died there and are buried at Ocean View Burial Park. They had one daughter, Cassie. She married Fred Bettle. He died in 1963. Cassie lives in Vancouver, B.C. They have no children. Charles Otto (June 21, 1866-1940) lived in Wilmot Valley where his son and grandson [10W farm, Lyman and Lyman Jr. Charles married Rachel Stavert (1871-1940). Stephen and his wife brought up two other children, Beth Corish and Wesley Huestis. It is thought that Beth moved to Saint John, N.B. Wesley married Maude Dunn of Summerside and later moved to Boston. Stephen and Ada were the first couple in this community to celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary. This celebration took place in 1907. Their grandson Earle, son ofGordon, took over the farm. Robert Earle Huestis (Feb. 1], 1896—Mar. 1, 1971) married Effie Elaine Waugh in 1921. Effie was born May 1st, 1895, a daughter ofThomas and Jerusha (Hogg) Waugh. Earle farmed and also was a milk—hauler for
