FARRIS
Just across the bridge on the left side of the road we come to the home of Robert Farris (Dec. 5, 1931). Bob was born in Billtown, N.S. the son of James and Dorothy Katherine (Morley) Farris. He married Doris Marchbank (Nov. 13, 1938), daughter of Keir and Lillian Marchbank of Wilmot Valley. Except for a short period when they lived in Western Canada, Bob and Doris have spent their married lives in Wilmot Valley. Bob is Sales Representative for Josa of Quebec and he and Doris have a family of five children: Dana Todd (Dec. 25, 1962), Kimberly Dawn (Nov. 23, 1963), Krista Joy (Nov. 3, 1967), Cory Scott (Oct. 18, 1971) and Robert Adam (Apr. 12, 1973).
Further along and on the same side of the road we come to the home of Arnold Waugh. This property was originally owned by a proprietor, Mr. MacDonald and was purchased by William Schurman in 1808. The first people to live on this farm were the Clarks.
CLARK
Theophilus DesBrisay Clark (1815—1888) was the son of William and Elizabeth (Crosby) Clark of Wilmot Valley. He married Helen (1818-1858), daughter of William Clark of Darnley. They bought this section of land from William Schurman and built the original house which was located on the right side of the road. Theophilus and Helen carried on a mixed farming operation and raised three children: Frederick W. (Nov. 14, 1847-Oct. 13, 1870), Eleanor E. (1851-Sept. 11, 1873) and John M. (Oct. 4, 1854-1936). Following the death of Helen, Theophilus married a second time to Jane Clark (1823—1860).
John Montague Clark (Oct. 8, 1854-1936) was the son of Theophilus and Eleanor Clark. He married Sarah Margaret Reeves (Feb. 27, 1855-Feb. 24, 1923), daughter of Thomas and Sarah Margaret (Strang) Reeves of Lower Freetown. John and Sarah lived on the homestead until 1882 when they went to Colorado due to his poor health. They returned to RBI. in 1886, settling in Kensington where John had a lumber business, and then moving to Summerside where his business flourished. In 1907 he sold his share of the contracting company to M.F. Schurman Co. and in 1916 he moved to Edmonton, Alberta. John and Sarah had seven children: Eleanor Jane (Jan. 28, 1878-Jan. 16, 1913), Margaret Isabella (Dec. 19, 1879—1979), Peter G. (May 12, 1881-1960), Theophilus Thomas (April 14, 1883), William Isaac (March 5, 1887-1964), Annie Maude (Oct. 28, 1888) and Horace Easton (Dec. 20, 1890-1975).
