Peter Ellsworth (1924- ) was the son of Peter R. and Annie (Goss) White of Summerside. He married A. Leone Ortman (1932- ), daughter of John and Elizabeth (Schuck) Ortman of Bengaugh, Saskatchewan. Peter joined the R.C.A.F. during the war and retired after 23 years of service. Leone is employed as Comptroller at P.C.H., Summerside. They moved to Wilmot Valley in December of 1966. They have three children, Cindy A. (1957), Peter R. (1958) and William Harry Boyce (1960). (See Veterans).

As we leave the White family, let us return to the Wilmot Grove Road and cross to the south side of the river. After passing the Robert Farris home we find a nameless road on our left. A journey down this modest little road brings into our record early settlers, who gave Wilmot Valley some of its richest history. At the entrance of the road is the home of John Robin- son. The road leads past several homes to the Elmer Waugh farm and then dwindles to a pretty wooded lane which curves by field and berry-patch before ending in Klondike. Now a favourite route for a Sunday stroll, this road once saw activity which has been of significant weight in our economic past. We will pass by the site of the former William Schurman home and overlook the river and dam, which saw the beginnings of his sawmill industry. Past the Waugh home, the riverbank still bears a fine sample of the tall, clean hardwood forest, which was fundamental to William’s venture. We have related earlier in our history some of the enterprise which, through the years, has bordered this road. Now we will try to add further detail to this picture by discussing the families who once lived here and by introducing those who now traverse this road. We will begin with the Robinsons.

ROBINSON

John and Donna Robinson have a new home on the left, as we turn off the Wilmot Grove Road. John Archibald (March 28, 1937) was born in Brooklyn, NS. and is the son of Eldon and Doris (Pinch) Robinson of Wolfville, NS. in June, 1962 he married Donna Maxine. daughter of Keir and Lillian (Beaton) Marchbank of Wilmot Valley. Donna was born on July 8, 1942. She was a secretary and worked at CFB Summerside and with the Civil Service in Ottawa before her marriage. John is a plumber with Inman Plumbing and Heating. He and Donna moved to our community from British Columbia in 1969. They built their home in 1970, on a lot formerly owned by Keir Marchbank, and have set out many trees on their grounds as well as maintaining a thriving vegetable garden. John and Donna have three children: Crystal Ann (1963) was born in Halifax, NS, and John Archibald Jr. (1965) was born in Summerside, P.E.I. Tamara Dawn (1967) was born in Fort Langley, BC.
