234 A Bridge To The Past are the gristmill, kiln, and millers, the snorting horses and the snatches of conversation ringing in the frosty air. Life continues of course, but this area, once the flourishing centre of the community, is now but a pretty, peaceful neighbourhood and a popular fishing—spot. The greatest similarity to the busy past lies with the groups of children who. like their many counterparts of years ago, still play their games along the sides of this small road. WADMAN The new house slightly east of the Marchbanks is the Wadman home. Leigh Frederick Wadman (1945) is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wadman of Kensington. Leigh married Sherrell Marchbank of Wilmot Valley. The Wadmans lived in Ontario for seven years, then returned to P.E.I. They built an attractive home on land formerly owned by Keir Marchbank, Sherell’s father. Leigh is a carpet-layer and operates Wadman Enterprises. He is also very active in REACT. Leigh and Sherrell have two children, Trevor Leigh (1970) who was born in Mississauga, Ontario and Chantal April (1978) born in Summerside, P.E.I. Across from the Wadman home, on the south side of the road, is the home of John and Lynn Farris. A large ell-shaped farmhouse once stood here and the date of its construction is not known. It is suggested that George Robinson, who operated the mills for Ewen, lived in it for a period of time. The first family living here on whom we have much information is the family of Al Clark. CLARK Albert Ewen Clark (July 23, l892-Dec. 24, 1948) was the son of Ewen and Rosara Clark. He married Ruth Durant (1896-Oct. 6, I923), daughter of Samuel and Zetilla (Tuplin) Durant of Margate. Al farmed and took great pride in his work. He began farming at thirteen years Of age, cultivating the land and caring for livestock, and eventually taking Over his father’s land which lay on the south side of the road. Al and Ruth had the following family: Audrey (Oct. 6, 1915) married Lorne Wright, son of Albert and Clara Wright of Central Bedeque. (See Wright). Mildred Georgina (Feb. 3, 1917) married George Webster. Their family are Ruth, Sarah Ann and Alan. The Websters live in Souris, P.E.I. Ewen Durant (Feb. 8, l922—Aug. 4, 1961) married Kathleen Dee. Their children were Brenda and Albert Ewen. Arthur died in September, 1923, as an infant.
