Footsteps Across The Bridge 235
It must have been a difficult and painful time for the family when Ruth died, with her infant son preceding her by only a few weeks. The loss of a mother to the husband and three young children meant a disruptive period for the family, with eight—year old Audrey going to live with her aunt, Dora Baker, for a year, and Georgie and Ewen going to live with the Durants in Margate. Audrey later lived with her aunt, Budd Schurman, in Summerside, where she attended school and Business College.
Al later married Mabel Eliza Hogg (Sept. 10, 1902), daughter of John W. and Sarah Ada Hogg of Wilmot Valley. Following Al’s death Mabel sold the farm and moved to Summerside. Elmer Waugh and Lloyd Waugh each purchased half of the land. The land on the north side of the road which Al had purchased earlier (formerly belonging to Wyman) was sold to Keir Marchbank. Mabel later married John Carruthers Weeks and after his death in 1970 married Henry Mallet. Al and Mabel had the following family:
Gwendolyn Alice (June 3, 1932) married Blake Lloyd. Their children are David and Clark.
Miriam Helen (March 31, 1936) married George Smallman and their children are William and Cynthia.
Dorothy Alberta (May 5, 1937) married Allan St. Clair Maclntosh. Their children are Susan, Patricia, Andrew and Donald.
Maurice (June 13, 1938) married Collett Bach in November, 1964.
Elizabeth Ann (Nov. 15, 1940) married John Tanchak and their children are Shenda and John.
