CLARK
William Clark (l777—died prior to Jan. 2, 1842) was the son of John Clark, a Loyalist who had settled in Charlottetown, and his first wife. William married Elizabeth Crosby (l777—May 28, 1842), daughter of William and Margaret (Orr) Crosby, on July 10, 1802. William lived on the Schurman homestead. In addition to operating the sawmill he constructed a gristmill. Little is known about these early settlers, but one can safely assume that they must have been in comfortable circumstances since William was able to buy the mill and a large amount of property from the Schurman estate. We know that William bought four thousand two hundred and eight acres of the Lot 25 property since he sold it to William Schurman, a son of William, the Loyalist, in 1827 after owning it for only three months. William and Elizabeth had eight children:
John Montague (Dec. 6, 1803~Dec., 1828) was a surveyor. He died at Egmont Bay.
James A. (June 19, 1805-March 16, 1851) married Nancy Ann Hooper on March 11, 1830. In 1845 he married Amy Linkletter. James was also a
land surveyor. He and Amy had a daughter, Mary Ann (Dec. 19, 1846—Jan.7. 1861).
Elizabeth married Alexander Campbell. William (1808—Nov, 25, 1885). Charles A. married Louisa Susanna Binns and farmed on the homestead.
Richard (l813-Sept. 16, 1868) married Harriet Hooper. Their children were Elizabeth, Major, Charles, Artemas who married Marion Ida Neill, Sarah Jane who married James Carruthers, Jessie who married D.K. Currie, John R. and Patterson.
