(Andrews) Carter, of Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, in June, 1957. Thomas is a member of the R.C.A.F. and was stationed at C.F.B. Summer- side until the fall of 1977, when he was transferred to Gander, New- foundland. They purchased their home on the Taylor Road in 1971 and made extensive renovations. For the past two years the house has been occupied by tenants. The Coolens have a family of four:
Andrew Michael (1958- ) married Karen Heather Farris in 1977. Andrew joined the C.A.F. and is stationed in Germany. He and Karen have two children, Rachel and Daniel.
Thomas Eric (1960) married Donna McCormick, and is a member of the C.A.F. They live in Nova Scotia.
Ronald Joseph (1963). Theresa (1964).
The last home we come to in Wilmot Valley is that of Morris Johnson. It is located on the north side of the Taylor Road. This land was originally owned by the Schurmans and was bought by John Ellis Maxfield in 1822. Again, “William Schurman, Loyalist,” by Graves, published by Harold B. Schurman, was extremely informative regarding the Maxfield family.
MAXFIELD
John Ellis Maxfield (1801-1875), son of John and Hannah (Appleton) Maxfield, was born in Youlton, Yorkshire, England. He married Sarah Elizabeth Baker (1810-1894) of North Bedeque, on March 26, 1827. The Maxfields were originally Methodist but were converted to the Morman faith. This religious calling encouraged them to move west and in 1849 they left Wilmot Valley for western U.S.A. They went by caravan, taking their possessions and a large family. Their children were:
Robert Quorton (Dec. 29, 1829- ) married (1) Emma Jane Smith, (2) Sarah Cahoon and (3) Mary Jane Cahoon.
Richard Dunwell (May 5, 1831- ) married (1) Artemissa Harris and (2) Ellen Thompson.
Elijah Hiett (Nov. 5, 1832- )marricd Helen Tanner.
Jesse (April 29, 1835-July 9, 1850) drowned in the Missouri River as the family was being ferried across to winter quarters. He was sent to get something for the baby brother who was ill. He slipped and fell off a plank into the swiftly running water. Only his hat was recovered.
James Appleton (Jan. 14, 1837— ) married (1) Dorothy Marcussen, (2) Ann Clifton.
