W.R.E.N. AUDREY (CLARK) WRIGHT enlisted in the W.R.C.N. Service in Sept., 1943 as a Captain’s writer. She was placed in a special group of 32, called the “File Revision Unit”. She was stationed in Ottawa at the Naval Service H.Q.’s, except for six months in Newfoundland, which was classed as overseas.
A.S. D.L. CLARK enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1942. He served on a Corvette on Convoy duty in the Atlantic, also on H.M.C.S. Uganda, and was in action in England and Egypt. David also visited Australia and Okinawa in the South Pacific. His ship saw action in the attack on Formosa. He received his discharge in 1945.
LANCE BOMBARDIER WILLIAM FARRIS enlisted in 1941 as private in the Royal Canadian Army. He served in Canada and overseas in the Fifth Light Anti-Aircraft regiment. He was discharged in 1946 and his papers listed the following honors he received: Voluntary Service Medal, C.U.S. Medal and Clasp, 1939-45 Star, Defense of Great Britain Star, France and Germany Star and the Italian Star. William is not shown in the photo as he moved to Wilmot Valley after the war years.
AIRMAN PETER WHITE enlisted on Sept. 9, 1942 in the R.C.A.F. telecommunications. He was posted to Gaspe and Fogo Island, New- foundland, classed as overseas. Peter re-enlisted in Feb., I947 and served until 1967. Peter did not live in Wilmot Valley when the photo was taken.
LANCE-CORPORAL LORNE WRIGHT enlisted in 1941 in the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corp. He served in England and France and returned to Canada in 1945 where he received his discharge. Lorne did not live in Wilmot Valley when the photo was taken.
F.O. J. HARRY WAUGH D.F.C.. D.F.M. enlisted in Nov., 1942 at eighteen years of age. He trained in Mont Joli, Que. as Rear Gunner and was posted overseas in I944 where he joined the R.C.A.F. #6 Group and was assigned to 420 Snowey Owl Squadron near Yorkshire, England. He was promoted to Flt/Sgt. in Nov., 1944 and later to Flying Officer. An eventful period was spent with Bomber Command during which F/O Waugh was awarded the Distinguished Flying Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross after being involved in several crashes and aerial combats. He was discharged in October, 1945, but rejoined the R.C.A.F. in 1950. He worked with the R.C.A.F. recruiting unit at Summerside until he joined the Ground observers Corps in 1952. Copies of his citations and a page from his log book will tell their own story of an eventful career.
A fact worthy of note and for which many families must have been thankful, was that all who enlisted, returned safely without any serious or disabling injuries, to their homes and loved ones.
