There is this to be said of national societies in Canada, 
     
     whether English, Irish, or Scotch, that by keeping alive the 
     
     traditions and memories, and by recalling the glories of the 
     
     lands of their fathers they distinctly strengthen the bond 
     
     which binds together the great Empire of which we are so 
     
     proud....The annual reunions in which our national societies 
     
     celebrate the festivals of St. Andrew, St. George or St.
