PROSPECTUS
L'Impartial was a French language newspaper begun in 1893. It printed news, anecdotes, poetry, fiction, agricultural articles and advertisements. It supported Roman Catholicism and the pre- servation of the Acadian culture and language. Politically non- partisan when it began publication, L'Impartial backed the federal Conservatives in the 1896 election on the Manitoba School Question. Following Laurier's election as prime minister, the paper's politics gradually became more and more Liberal until 1914 when it became the offical French language organ of the Liberal party in the Maritimes.2 Local news coverage was good in the paper, particularly in the first decade of the twentieth century. Photographs appeared occasionally from the late 18905 onwards. L‘Impartial ceased publication on July 11, 1915.
