PROSPECTUS

The Islander was a Conservative newspaper throughout its publishing history. During the 18403 it was the adversary of the Palladium, opposing escheat and Responsible Govern— ment and acting as the defender of the Tories and the Family Compact. During the 18505, when the Islander began its life- long feud with the Liberal Examiner, the paper often discussed temperance, education and Liberal corruption. The Land Com- mission Award was supported in the early 18605, with Con- federation and the construction of the railroad being the Islander's main causes during its final years of publication. Local and international news, advertisements, anecdotes, and agricultural articles were all published in the Islander. The

newspaper ceased publication in 1873.
