A coating of stifFclay, two or three inches thick will convert almost any sandy soil into a good loam. Severat kinds of plants have a beneficial effect in binding 'sandy soils. Spurry is much prized in Europe for the improve¬ ment of sandy soils. ■ Professor Johnston says " of all food for cattle spurry grows best on a light, sandy soil. In Europe it is considered exceedingly milk-producing for the cow." It is cultivated largely on the sandy soils of Flanders, and is the most nourishing, in proportion to its bulk, of all forage, and gives the best flavoured milk and butter.
