He married Elizabeth, daughter of Deputy Governor Robert Hazard. The S. Paul’s Church‘ record says: “On the third Sunday of April, 1752, being the 19th day of said month, Robert Hazard, commonly called Doctor Hazard, was married to Elizabeth Hazard, daughter of Robert Hazard, of Point Judith, deceased, at the house ofher mother, Esther Hazard, and Colonel Joseph Hazard, her son, by the Reverend Doctor MacSparran.” Also from the same record: On the 12th of February, 1771, Doctor Robert Hazard was buried, having had a long and lingering illness. A considerable assembly present, and a funeral ser— mon preached, and on Sunday, the 24th, I preached at the house of mourning of the late Doctor Hazard, on mortality—a large congregation present. The Honourable James Honeyman was present, who came from Little Rest, where

the Court had been sitting the whole week.” 2

§229. MARY HAZARD, 5 (Governor George, 4; George, 3; Robert, 2; Thomas, I), was born July 16, I722 ; she died in April, 1805, aged eighty—three years. She married, March 2, 1737, Benjamin Peckham, son of Benjamin and Mary (Carr) Peckham; he was born March 22, 1715, and died in March, 1791. Their home was in Matunuck, on land given to him by his father, just south of the Potter Pond. In 1768, the Town Council of South Kingstown voted that William Potter, Benjamin Peckham, Freeman Perry, Paul Mumford, Es- quires, or a part of them, be a committee to consider of Proper measures to Recommend to the Inhabitants of this Town for Encouraging Industry, Fru- gality and American manufaétories, and make a Report,” &c.
