     § 283 JEREMIAH HAZARD,5 (Jeffrey, 4; Robert, 3 , Robert, 2; Thomas, 
     
     I), was born August 13, 1726. He died June 23, I79 5. His father gave to him, 
     
     by deed, three hundred acres in Exeter, and besidesg this fine farm, the tradition 
     
     is, that “ as his father died without a will, he, by the Old English law still in force 
     
     inherited all the estate, comprising three hundred acres given to JeErey by his 
     
     father, and also a farm called the ‘ Great Neck ’ farm, of several hundred acres, 
     
     besides other land.” But the law of 1719 for the settlement of intestate estates 
     
     when not entailed, would have covered this case; and this disproves the legend 
     
     with regard to Jeremiah being his father’ s sole heir. 
     
    

    
     “ Stout Jeffrey,” while attending a meeting of the Selectmen of the town, took a 
     
     sudden and Violent cold, from sitting in his wet clothes. Feeling himselfvery ill 
     
     he sent for a lawyer to make his will, but the lawyer delayed his Visit until the 
     
     next day, when “Stout Jeffrey,” just in his prime, with his splendid physique 
     
     and great vitality, was dead. This account is given by one of his descendants, 
     
     who vouches for the truth of It. 
     
    

    
     Jeremiah Hazard married Mary, daughter of Robert and Patience (Northup) 
     
     Hazard, his second cousin. She was born 1726, and died October 22, I816.

     (Wilkinson) Browning. He was admitted freeman from North Kingstown in 
     
     1756. When drafted, In 1777, he refused to serve, Whether because of his re- 
     
    
   
   
    
     ligious or political belief Is not stated. Susannah Hazard died February, 1795 ,
