§ 362- THOMAS HAZARD, 6 (Thomas, 5; Robert, 4; Thomas,3 ; Robert, 2; Thomas, I), was born November 15, 1758. He died at his home in New York, of apoplexy, July 24, 1828, aged seventy years, and was buried in the Friends’ Cemetery. He married, September 6, 1780, Anna, daughter of Thomas and Mary (Borden) Rodman; born June 24., 1762; died June 14., 184.5, aged eighty—four. After his marriage (at Leicester, Massachusetts), he went to live at Cranston, Rhode Island, near Providence, where several of his children were born. In 1789, he moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts, and in consequence was called “ Bedford Torn.” His house, a fine old colonial mansion on the corner of Elm and North Streets, is still standing. He made a large fortune in the whaling busi— ness, and took an active part in politics, being postmaster of New Bedford and a State Senator in 1812. He was the first president of the Bedford Bank, which commenced business in 1803.
He moved to New York shortly after the war of 1812, and lived at N°. 80 Beek— man Street, in a large brick house, near S. George’s Church. He was actively en— gaged in business in New York, but owned interests in several vessels engaged
