§936. SAMUEL FALES HAZARD, 7 (Nathaniel, 6; Mayor George, 5; Governor George, 4; George, 3; Robert, 2; Thomas, I), was born February 29, 1804, at Taunton, Mass. He entered the Navy as midshipman, January, 1823. He served in the war with Mexico, and in the war of the Rebellion, being with Admiral Foote on the Mississipi River at the taking of Island No. 10 and was attached to the staflr of General Burnside, commanding the naval forces, in the expedition against Newbern and Roanoke Island. It was owing to the exposure during this service that he contracted the disease which finally ended his life, January 15, 1867. Of his forty—four years in the service, twenty years and seven months were spent at sea, thirteen years and two months on shore duty, only ten years and two months being unemployed. He married, August 10, 1841, Martha, daughter of Charles and Mary DeWolfe.
