     was born in 1835. Early in life he was engaged in teaching, and later in business; 
     
     but about 1870 he retired to his farm in North Kingstown, and has since that 
     
     time been engaged in farming. He is interested in antiquarian research, and has 
     
     done excellent work for many historical publications. His paper on Land Title: 
     
     is not only extremely interesting, but valuable for its accuracy, showing much 
     
     patient study and research. He is almost. the only man besides the town clerk 
     
     who is allowed to handle the tattered, burnt records of North Kingstown, pre— 
     
     served at Wickford, Rhode Island. From his study of these records, many dis— 
     
     coveries have been made most valuable to historians and genealogists.
