§ 2104. JOHN HOWLAND FELL, 9 (Mary R. Howland, 8; Sarah Hazard, 7; Thomas, 6; Thomas, 5; Robert, 4.; Thomas, 3; Robert, 2; Thomas, 1), was born in New York, December 23, 1830; he died at Yonkers, New York, Oéto— ber 6, 1882, and was buried at New Rochelle. At the beginning of the Civil War, he enlisted in Duryea’s Zouaves, and was stationed at Fort Schuyler, New York. He was commissioned ensign in the Fourth Regiment, New York State Volun— teers, July 6,1861. When a lieutenant, he was honorably mentioned for gallant conduct at the battle of Antietam. His commissmn as Captain, Company K, Fourth Regiment New York State Volunteers, was dated Oétober 14, 1862. He was then compelled to resign on account of physical disability brought on by the hardships of the campaigns in which he participated. His company attained great perfeétion 1n skirmish drill.

John H. Pell married, first, Cornelia Corse, of Flushing, Long Island; she died May 13, 1864.; he married, second, April 20, 1870, Caroline B, daughter of Stephen Hyatt.
