-27- James MacDonald. In 1880 it became a Jesuit College; in 1881 it passed into the hands of the BishOp who appointed the Rev. D. Chaisson Rector. and the Rev. Dr. . Grant. First Professor. In 188A Father Charles MacDonald became rector. having under him a staff of two priests and three lay professors. The college has now “a roll of 85 pupils. 53 boarders and 33 day scholars. and is in a most flourishing condition.

In the year 188b, the cemetry which had been blessed by Bishop EcDonald in 18h}. having become over crowded, a new site of twelve acres was purchased, about a mile from the city limits. This was laid out according to the plan of St. Patrick's Cemetery in Quebec. and was solemnly consecrated in 188A. The first internment within the precincts of this cemetery was that of the lamented Father NbGilliVary. senior priest of St. Dunstan's who died on the hth of July. 1883. deeply and deservedly regretted by all classes and creeds of the community.

In the autumn of 188A, it became evident that St. Joseph's Convent was much

too small to afford accomodation for the two hundred and forty eight children attending the classes. and the Bishop undertook to erect an extension of 111 feet by AB feet which renders it one of the most imposing buildings in the city. This undertaking was most popular with the Catholics of Charlottetown. who cheerfully responded to the calls which it necessitated on their purse strings. Among other projects for raising the necessary funds were two bazaars which were so liberally patronized as to realize over $2000. each. a large sum to be made by a bazaar in a small provincial town.

On Wednesday. August the 12th, 1885. the Silver Jubilee of His Lordship, BishOpMcIntyre, was celebrated with pomp and enthusiasm in Charlottetown. On that day the Right Reverend James Regers was the honoured guest of BishOp BbIntyre, as twenty five years before he had with him received episcopal consecration. The principal members of the Canadian hierarCny and many of the leading priests were also the guests of his Lordship on this auspicious occasion.

The celebration began with the offering of the Most Holy Sacrifice of the Pass.
